Road accidents continue to claim lives across Pakistan, yet unsafe driving has become so common that many people barely notice it. Speeding and reckless overtaking have become routine on many roads. Every violation increases the risk not only for the driver but also for innocent pedestrians and other motorists.
Traffic laws are meaningful only when they are enforced consistently. Modern enforcement tools — surveillance cameras and electronic ticketing — can help reduce violations, but they cannot replace responsible driving. Drivers must recognise that following traffic rules is a civic duty rather than an inconvenience.
To mitigate this, road safety campaigns should become a regular feature in schools and the teachers should start encouraging responsible behaviour from an early age. Moreover, harsh penalties should be set for those breaking taffic laws as a form of detterence.
