Rising temperatures in Turbat have become a serious challenge for residents, making daily life extremely difficult, especially for students, labourers, farmers, shopkeepers and the elderly. The heat also affects productivity and increases the demand for electricity and water.
A key reason for this worsening situation is the decline in green areas. Trees play a vital role in reducing heat, providing shade, improving air quality and maintaining ecological balance. A greener city is not only healthier but also more resilient to climate change.
The local authorities should initiate large-scale tree plantation drives across roads, schools, parks and other public spaces. Native plants suitable for Turbat’s climate should be prioritised to ensure survival with limited water resources. Citizens, educational institutions and social organisations should also contribute. Even planting one tree per person can collectively make a meaningful difference.
Tree plantation is not just an environmental activity; it is an investment in the city’s future. I hope the concerned authorities will take urgent and serious action on this issue.
