Every year, a large number of talented Pakistani graduates board a one-way flight out of the only home they have ever known. It is not ambition alone that drives them abroad; it is the growing conviction that Pakistan cannot value the very people it educates. The reasons are not hard to find: limited job creation, inflation eroding real wages, and a growing sense that merit alone does not guarantee a secure future. For many young people, emigration has become less a choice than a necessity.
Reversing this trend requires more than rhetoric about “brain drain”. It demands genuine investment in industries that create skilled jobs, transparent hiring practices, and economic policies that give the youth a reason to believe their future lies at home. Therefore, our policymakers should focus on this problem so that our best brains stay in the homeland and work for the progress of the country.
