KARACHI:
Scientific research has consistently shown that playing games — particularly strategy games, puzzles, chess and many action video games in moderation — can benefit brain function. Such games improve memory, attention, problem-solving, decision-making and cognitive flexibility by stimulating different areas of the brain. They also strengthen neural connections, enhance hand-eye coordination and encourage critical thinking.
Neuroscientists emphasise that mentally challenging activities promote neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to adapt, learn and form new neural pathways throughout life. While excessive gaming can have negative effects, balanced participation in intellectually stimulating games has been shown to support learning, mental agility and overall cognitive health. Therefore, we need to let go of our outdated notions regarding gaming and instead encourage moderation in activities for kids.
