If we compare the children of today with those of our time, the generational changes are obvious. Children in the past were not pampered or overly sensitive. A minor wound while playing outside was part of the day. We managed ourselves, and playing was our first preference. Streets, playgrounds and friends were our entertainment.
In today’s era of modernity, technology has revolutionised childhood. Most kids now prefer mobiles over outdoor games. Moreover, parents also restrict them from playing outside due to safety concerns. While safety is important, we must also provide safe spaces for our children where they can play without any fear.
Another major change is parenting. In the past, one ‘no’ from elders was enough. Today, saying ‘no’ to a child is considered harsh. Often, even when parents try to be strict, the love of grandparents comes in the way, leaving parents helpless.
We must realise whether are we training our children for the future or weakening them with our own hands. The solution lies in balanced parenting. Only then can we raise children capable of facing any circumstances in life.
