Lahore’s iconic landmarks — Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort and Minar-e-Pakistan — welcome thousands of visitors every day. Sadly, many visitors are reportedly charged more than the officially prescribed rates for parking and shoe-keeping outside Badshahi Mosque. Most people either do not know the official charges or avoid arguing, allowing this practice to continue.
Such overcharging places an unnecessary burden on families and leaves a poor impression on both local and foreign tourists. If the government has fixed official rates, they should be prominently displayed and strictly enforced. Regular inspections, complaint helplines and prompt action against violators would help ensure transparency and protect visitors from exploitation.
Our national heritage sites should reflect honesty, fairness and hospitality. I urge the relevant authorities to take immediate notice of this issue and ensure that only the approved charges are collected so that every visitor can enjoy these historic places with confidence and respect.
