Impersonation at examination centres has become an alarming problem across Sindh. Even in competitive examinations, another individual appears in place of the actual candidate, undermining the credibility of the recruitment and admission process. This widespread malpractice reflects the failure of testing authorities to implement effective identity verification measures. In some cases, candidates allegedly upload misleading profile photographs to evade detection. Moreover, the use of forged or fraudulent CNICs further facilitates impersonation.
From MDCAT and NCAT to recruitment examinations for teaching, police and local government jobs, actual candidates are replaced by more qualified individuals who have previously appeared in similar examinations. Several impersonation cases were detected during MDCAT 2024 and in police recruitment examinations in 2026. Allegations of impersonation have also surfaced in the NCAT 2026 examination conducted by the Sindh Testing Service and the JEST examination conducted by IBA.
This menace must be addressed through stringent identity verification, biometric authentication, surveillance systems and strict legal action against both impersonators and facilitators.
