KARACHI:
The excessive use of social media is becoming a matter of concern. Young people in particular spend hours on scrolling through social media feeds, often at the expense of their studies, physical activities and family interactions. The constant exposure to unrealistic lifestyles and beauty standards can lead towards anxiety, low self-esteem and depression. Moreover, the spread of misinformation, cyberbullying and online scams poses serious risks towards young users.
While social media is a powerful tool, its benefits can only be fully realised when it is used responsibly. Parents, teachers and educational institutions should work together to promote digital literacy and encourage healthy online habits among young people. Awareness campaigns, guidance sessions and balanced screen time practices can help the youth to use social media productively while avoiding its negative effects. By taking timely action, we can ensure that social media serves as a source of learning and growth rather than distraction and harm.
