Public transport delays

Letter July 08, 2026
Public transport delays

KARACHI:

Many buses and coaches across Balochistan begin their journeys without adequate fuel and are forced to stop repeatedly at petrol stations along the route, causing unnecessary delays and inconvenience. Passengers often spend hours waiting while drivers arrange fuel or attend to mechanical issues that should have been addressed before departure. These delays particularly affect students appearing in examinations, patients travelling for medical treatment, workers reporting to their jobs and families attending important events.
Public transport serves as a lifeline for millions of Pakistanis. However, poor management and weak enforcement of transport regulations continue to create hardships for commuters. In many cases, buses also exceed passenger capacity, ignore departure schedules and fail to meet basic safety standards.
I urge the transport authorities to conduct regular inspections, enforce strict operational standards and ensure that all buses are properly fuelled and roadworthy before departure. Companies that repeatedly violate regulations should face penalties.
Passengers deserve safe, reliable and timely transportation services. Addressing these shortcomings will improve public confidence and reduce unnecessary hardships for travellers.
