Contaminated water

Contaminated water

KARACHI:

What is the value of development if people still lack access to clean drinking water? This is the harsh reality for the residents of Hub in Balochistan. Even when water is available, it is often contaminated and unsafe for consumption. The Hub Canal, which should be a source of clean water, has become heavily polluted. Wastewater from drains flows into the canal, forcing many residents to use polluted water for their daily needs because of the shortage of clean water. As a result, they are exposed to waterborne diseases and other health hazards.
The provincial government and other relevant authorities must ensure a reliable supply of clean drinking water, clean the canal regularly and take effective measures to prevent further pollution. The water supply system should also be improved so that every household has access to safe drinking water. Clean water is not a privilege but a basic necessity. The government must act without delay to address this issue before more lives are affected.
