Wind cuts power

Letter June 28, 2026
Wind cuts power

KARACHI:

We are accustomed to load-shedding that happens during rain. But a new pattern is unfolding these days. As soon as a breeze starts to blow, electricity is cut the next second. Most of the time that breeze stops in a few minutes, but the power outage persists.
It is understandable that the weak electric infrastructure of our country cannot hold against heavy rains and storms, as electric feeders get tripped, electric wires get ripped, and electric poles get displaced. However, this cannot justify load-shedding every time the wind starts to blow.
The audacity with which power supply companies are cutting electricity in this way is shocking. Most work is stopped as power is crucial in these times of technology. Even household activities are hindered as people are left to suffer long periods of blackout. Thus, it is high time the government invested in weather-resistant electric infrastructure that can give relief to the people who are taxed.
