Sewage problem

Letter June 22, 2026
Sewage problem

KARACHI:

The sewage problem on Airport Road in Turbat has become a serious public health and civic concern. What should be a major and well-maintained road of the city is now plagued by stagnant sewage water, emitting foul odours and creating unbearable conditions for residents, commuters, and nearby businesses.
The accumulated wastewater has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and harmful bacteria, increasing the risk of diseases such as malaria, dengue and other infections. Pedestrians are forced to walk through contaminated water, while vehicles struggle to pass through damaged and slippery roads, often leading to accidents and traffic disruptions.
Airport Road is a key route that represents the image of Turbat. Its current condition not only affects daily life but also tarnishes the city’s reputation. Immediate steps must be taken to repair the sewage system, clear the stagnant water, and implement a long-term drainage solution to prevent recurrence.
I urge the concerned authorities to take swift and effective action before this issue escalates into a larger public health crisis. The people of Turbat deserve clean, safe, and liveable surroundings.
