KARACHI:
In an age when electricity powers education, healthcare, communication, agriculture and economic activity, many communities in Balochistan’s Shahi Tump region continue to suffer from prolonged power outages and unreliable supply.
The absence of electricity has created immense hardship for citizens. Students are unable to study during evening hours, particularly during examination periods. Healthcare facilities struggle to provide essential services, while small businesses suffer financial losses due when their operations are disrupted. Farmers also face difficulties because irrigation systems and agricultural equipment depend heavily on electricity. The crisis has become even more challenging during the summer months when temperatures rise significantly. Families are forced to endure extreme heat without cooling systems or adequate lighting. This affects their overall quality of life.
Reliable electricity is a necessity for development and economic growth. The relevant authorities should prioritise improvements to upgrade power infrastructures and transmission systems to ensure stable electricity supply for underserved communities. The people of Shahi Tump deserve the same access to essential services enjoyed by citizens elsewhere in the country.
