KARACHI:
There is an acute shortage of fire brigade services in many parts of Pakistan. Fires frequently break out in residential areas, markets, industrial zones and forests and since there are very few, if any, fire stations, the response times are extremely delayed.
The situation becomes even more dangerous in densely populated urban areas where narrow streets and inadequate emergency infrastructure make rescue operations difficult. Electrical short circuits, gas leaks, careless handling of flammable materials and extreme temperatures further increase fire risks.
A modern and efficient fire service is essential for public safety. Therefore, the government should establish additional fire stations, provide advanced firefighting equipment, train emergency personnel and improve emergency response systems. Public awareness campaigns on fire prevention and safety measures should also be conducted regularly.
Timely firefighting services can save lives, reduce economic losses and strengthen public confidence in emergency management systems.
