Student unions

Student unions

KARACHI:

The ongoing ban on student unions is a longstanding crisis in our educational system. It has been over three decades since student bodies were restricted across Pakistan, and the consequences of this political vacuum are now devastating our campuses.
Without an organised, representative student body to hold the administration accountable, we are forced to endure illogical policies, extreme fee hikes and arbitrary fines — all without any student input. While the cost of education skyrocket, basic facilities like proper libraries, clean drinking water and functional labs are disappearing.
When you strip students of their collective voice, you leave them entirely at the mercy of tyrannical administrations. Student unions are not a threat; they are a vital training ground for leadership, dialogue and democratic values. If we truly want to save our education system and protect the rights of the youth, the government must lift this ban and allow students to democratically elect their own representatives.
