Teachers’ protests

Letter June 08, 2026
Teachers’ protests

KARACHI:

The current situation in public universities caused by the ongoing protests of unpaid teachers is deeply alarming. While educators have every right to demand their salaries and fair treatment, the prolonged disruption has placed the future of thousands of students at risk.
Classes are being cancelled, examinations are being delayed and academic calendars have become increasingly uncertain. Many students, particularly those from low-income families, depend on public universities for affordable education and cannot afford further setbacks. The constant interruptions not only affect learning but also create anxiety regarding graduations, scholarships and future employment opportunities.
It is deeply concerning that institutions responsible for shaping the nation’s future are struggling to function due to unresolved financial issues. The authorities must take immediate steps to clear outstanding dues and engage in meaningful dialogue with teachers to restore normal academic activities. The future of students should not become a casualty of administrative negligence.
