KARACHI:
Despite attending school regularly, many students feel overlooked in the classroom. Although their names appear in the attendance register, their voices often remain unheard. Teachers tend to focus on students who are outspoken and confident, while quieter students are frequently overlooked despite being equally hardworking and capable.
As a student, I have experienced this personally. Whenever I sit quietly in class, I sometimes feel as though my presence does not matter. Even when I try to contribute to discussions, attention is often directed toward the same few students who participate regularly. As a result, many intelligent students go unnoticed and their potential remains untapped. The consequences of being ignored in the classroom can be serious. Quiet students may gradually lose confidence and become reluctant to express their thoughts. Over time, this can negatively affect both their academic performance and personal development. An education system cannot truly succeed if a significant number of students feel excluded from the learning process.
Teachers should make a conscious effort to involve every student by calling on them individually and ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to participate. Group activities should be structured in a way that encourages quieter students to share their ideas and contribute meaningfully. Every student deserves to be seen and heard in the classroom.
