Labourers and Pakistan

Letter June 02, 2026
Labourers and Pakistan

KARACHI:

Labourers in Pakistan work extremely hard, yet many of them still do not have proper safety at their workplaces. They often work long hours in dangerous environments with very limited safety equipment and inadequate protection. In countries such as Japan and Germany, workers are treated with better training systems, stronger labour laws and safer working conditions.
In contrast, many workers in Pakistan, including electricians, welders, drivers and masons, suffer injuries because of unsafe workplaces and the lack of proper emergency healthcare services. Reports from early 2026 showed that many workers lost their lives in workplace accidents during just the first few months of the year. These incidents highlight the urgent need for stronger safety measures and better protection for labourers.
Workers are the backbone of the economy, and their safety should be treated as a national priority. The government and private companies should provide proper safety equipment, professional training and quick medical assistance for workers. Employers should also ensure fair wages and better working conditions, especially for labourers who work long hours in risky environments.
Respecting labourers means not only appreciating their hard work but also protecting their lives, health and dignity. A country can progress only when its workers are safe, valued and treated fairly.
