KARACHI:
The disregard for artistic, musical, dramatic and creative writing abilities in today’s society is one of the greatest losses in our educational system. Science, engineering and medicine are often considered the only respectable professions that schools and families encourage students to pursue.
It is common to advise students who are talented artists, poets, musicians or stage performers to focus only on “real” subjects instead. Because of this pressure, many students are forced to abandon their passions and study subjects they are not truly interested in.
As a result, even if students achieve good grades, their natural talents remain wasted, and many grow up feeling unfulfilled. Society loses creativity, culture weakens and talented individuals are never given the opportunities they deserve to shine.
Education should not only prepare students for jobs but also help them discover and develop their abilities. Creative fields such as art, literature, music, theatre and design are equally important for the growth of a balanced and progressive society.
Therefore, parents, teachers and educational institutions should value and support all forms of talent, not only careers associated with high salaries. A society can achieve true and balanced growth only when every individual is encouraged to follow both their abilities and their passion.
