KARACHI:
Temperatures continue to rise, yet people in many parts of the country are forced to live without electricity for long hours, as power supply remains unstable from 7am until 10 pm. At home, some families manage to survive because they have solar systems. However, the real suffering can be seen in schools, colleges and universities, where many students sit together in classrooms without fans or proper ventilation. In this extreme weather and continuous load-shedding, students are reportedly suffering from breathing problems, weakness, dehydration and suffocation.
Reports have already been shared on social media that students in government schools in Turbat are facing serious breathing difficulties because of a combination of rising heat and absence of electricity. The situation in schools in other parts of Balochistan many not have been different. The authorities must understand that electricity is a basic necessity. Therefore they must take serious and urgent steps to at least cut down on the number of hours of load-shedding before this extreme heat causes even greater suffering.
