Ensuring cleanliness

KARACHI:

Cleanliness is essential for a healthy and civilised society, yet the condition of cleanliness in Turbat has become deeply concerning. Garbage can be seen scattered across public places, creating an unhealthy environment for residents. The growing waste problem not only damages the beauty of the city but also threatens public health.
One of the major causes of this uncleanliness is the improper management of waste. In many areas, garbage is not collected regularly, causing waste to accumulate. The open dumping of trash produces foul smells and attracts flies and mosquitoes, which increase the spread of diseases. The situation becomes even worse during the rainy season. Blocked drainage systems lead to stagnant water on roads and streets, creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes and causing severe inconvenience for citizens.  Although the government is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, citizens must also play their part. Many people throw garbage on roads and in public spaces instead of using dustbins.
The municipal authorities should improve waste management by ensuring regular garbage collection and establishing proper landfill sites away from residential areas. Modern recycling systems should also be introduced to reduce environmental pollution. Public awareness campaigns are equally important. Schools, mosques, social organisations and local communities should educate people about hygiene and cleanliness. Weekly cleanliness drives involving volunteers and students can help create a stronger sense of responsibility among citizens. In addition, fines should be imposed on individuals who dump waste illegally in public areas.
