No-tobacco day

Letter May 15, 2026
No-tobacco day

KARACHI:

We are in the month of May and gradually approaching the World No-Tobacco Day celebrated globally on May 31. However, in Pakistan, there is seemingly no decline in smoking even on this day. Those who are habitual smokers understand the harm it carries and oftentimes want to quit but do not know how.
They’re helpless because Pakistan has almost no framework in place for helping adult smokers quit. The availability of effective and affordable cessation services is critical to put an end to this culture. Pakistan must provide these services at local, district and provincial levels, so that it can truly take a step forward towards making Pakistan smoke-free.
