Overburdened teachers

Overburdened teachers

KARACHI:

At a time when the entire country is undergoing multiple crises, the education sector has not been spared. While government institutions face their own challenges, private schools and their students are equally affected — not least here in Mianwali.
Private teachers are compelled to work for monthly salaries as low as Rs6,000 to Rs10,000, yet they are burdened with workload equal to those of employees earning over Rs50,000. Their work hours are excessively long and management piles on unpaid homework after school. Despite their relentless efforts, these teachers receive no job security, financial stability or basic professional protection.
Meanwhile students, especially those in smaller private schools and rural areas around Mianwali, are suffering as well. They are forced to sit in dark, overcrowded classrooms without proper ventilation or a healthy learning environment. Quality education has become a distant dream.
Local community members have urged the district administration of Mianwali to conduct strict inspections of private schools, particularly in surrounding villages. A proper audit of these institutions is imperative. Moreover, why are schools allowed to operate in small, inadequate buildings? If timely action is not taken, this crisis will worsen and its consequences will ultimately be borne by the entire society.
