KARACHI:
We are confronted with the growing risk of misinformation created by Artificial Intelligence. Today, AI can write news, create photos, and even clone voices that sound like the original ones. Many people cannot distinguish between what is true and what is false, which causes significant problems. Fake news goes viral very fast on social media, often before it can be verified. This leads people to believe misinformation regarding health and politics, and to trust dishonest sources. Students may also inadvertently use incorrect answers for their homework. Furthermore, fake videos can destroy lives by damaging reputations or creating widespread panic.
The primary reason for this is that AI does not verify facts; it only provides an answer to a prompt. Additionally, people often share content without verifying its truth. I urge the government to establish regulations for AI companies. Social media platforms should be required to label AI-generated content, and schools should teach students fact-checking skills to help them evaluate information online.
