KARACHI:
Radiotherapy is a widely used and effective treatment for cancer, which employs high-energy radiation to destroy cancer cells and prevent their further growth. Its precision allows it to target specific areas of the body where tumours are present, as opposed to chemotherapy which targets the entire body.
However, many people in our society are not aware of this treatment. Oftentimes, lack of knowledge also wrongfully associates it with death. This fear discourages patients from seeking a potentially life-saving treatment.
There is an urgent need to address these misconceptions through awareness programmes in schools and colleges, particularly in rural areas. Improving awareness will empower people to make informed decisions about their health, so that misinformation can no longer stand in the way of effective care.
