KARACHI:
Farmers who feed an entire nation through their tireless efforts often remain uncertain about receiving fair prices for their produce. The wheat harvest, instead of bringing relief, frequently adds to their worries.
On one hand, the cost of farming has increased significantly due to rising prices of fertilisers and diesel, influenced by global economic conditions. On the other hand, there is a shortage of machinery used for harvesting and separating grain, which leads to crop damage and reduced output.
In addition, constant power outages disrupt agricultural processes, while adverse weather conditions further affect the quality of wheat. All these challenges place a heavy financial burden on farmers, making it difficult for them to manage their households and support those who depend on their income.
It is essential for the government to provide subsidies, ensure the availability of modern machinery, and stabilise input costs to protect farmers from continuous losses and strengthen the agricultural sector.
