KARACHI:
I recently experienced a deeply distressing situation while attempting my HSSC-II board examination at Government Girls Degree College, Turbat. Sitting for three hours at a stretch in a suffocating examination hall amid power loadshedding, in extreme heat, left me and many other students completely exhausted. The conditions were so uncomfortable that it became difficult to focus on the paper. Instead of concentrating on our answers, we were struggling to cope with the unbearable temperature – an unacceptable condition for any examination setting.
It is alarming that such a reputed and large institution lacks basic facilities. There is no proper electricity backup system, such as solar panels or generators, leaving students to endure severe heat during crucial exams. Turbat, being one of the hottest regions, demands additional measures to ensure a conducive environment for students, yet the situation reflects serious neglect.
The authorities concerned should take immediate action and ensure reliable alternative power arrangements. Providing basic facilities like electricity and ventilation is a fundamental right of every student. Urgent steps must be taken to prevent such conditions in the future.
