Lupus disease

Letter April 25, 2026
Lupus disease

KARACHI:

World Lupus Day is observed on May 10 each year to bring attention to a serious global health issue and increase public awareness. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It is estimated that nearly 3.41 million people globally live with the condition and about 90% of patients are women, mostly between the ages of 15 and 44. In Pakistan, there are only around 75 rheumatologists for a population of over 200 million, meaning the vast majority of lupus patients, particularly those outside major cities, have no realistic access to the specialist care needed for diagnosis and treatment
I kindly request the government to launch awareness camps for lupus. These camps should provide free medical checkups and work to improve facilities for early diagnosis.
