While immediate measures such as increased patrolling and CCTV surveillance are necessary, they only address the symptoms and not the root causes of the problem. Recent reports indicate that thousands of street crime incidents have occurred so far this year, with dozens of citizens losing their lives during robbery-related violence, reflecting the severity of the situation.
Meaningful change requires more than temporary enforcement; it demands sustained efforts to modernise emergency response systems and ensure strict legal accountability. These incidents should not be treated as isolated cases for political point-scoring, but rather as a serious humanitarian concern that threatens the safety and future of our citizens.
Ultimately, the authorities must prioritise a coordinated and long-term framework for justice over short-term fixes. Only by addressing these deeper structural issues can we restore the sense of safety and security that the people of Karachi rightfully deserve.
