KARACHI:
I am a student of law enrolled in my 9th semester, facing challenges in conducting legal research due to outdated legal databases. As Pakistan is a developing nation facing multiple setbacks, students in universities are confronting major issues: outdated legal databases, poor library structures, lack of a research culture, limited access to case laws, weak internet and digital access and language barriers.
If we compare Pakistan’s academic structure with other Asian nations, they are much more developed, having strong analytical and legal reasoning methods in academics. However, as a student, I feel frustrated with the weak legal research methods in universities. Pakistan’s youth do not lack talent, but unfortunately lack digitalisation of research records, training programmes, free access to databases and reform in legal education. Therefore, the government should introduce educational reforms to strengthen research methods.
