Sedentary lifestyle

KARACHI:

It is unfortunate that physical activity among youngsters has significantly declined in recent years due to the excessive use of mobile phones, electronic gadgets and social media has largely replaced these healthy habits.
As a result, many young people are becoming physically weak, inactive and prone to lifestyle-related health issues. To compensate, they are forced to join gyms at an early age. While gyms can help maintain fitness, the underlying problem of a sedentary lifestyle remains unaddressed.
Another major factor is the lack of structured physical activities in schools. Most educational institutions focus solely on academic performance and very few schools offer extracurricular physical activities. Consequently, students fail to develop healthy habits or a strong physique from childhood.
By encouraging outdoor play, limiting fast food and controlling excessive screen time, parents can help their children maintain a natural level of physical fitness. Early intervention is essential, as habits formed during childhood usually last a lifetime. If parents, schools and society collectively pay attention to the physical well-being of children, it will not only strengthen their bodies but also contribute to their overall development.
