Backbone of society

Letter March 26, 2026
Backbone of society

The youth of today represent the greatest strength and hope of any nation. They possess energy, creativity and ambition, making them the driving force behind social and economic progress. However, many young people today are facing serious challenges that threaten their future.

The increasing use of drugs, excessive social media addiction, growing unemployment and weakening traditional values are gradually pushing many young individuals in the wrong direction. Reports indicate that drug abuse among young people in Pakistan has been rising steadily, with millions affected by substance use disorders.

Parents, teachers and community leaders must play a crucial role in guiding youth through positive examples, encouragement and moral support. Educational institutions should provide career counseling, skill development programmes and healthy extracurricular activities to engage young minds productively.

Governments must also invest in youth development by creating employment opportunities, supporting entrepreneurship and establishing community centers where young people can learn valuable skills.
If properly guided and empowered, the youth can become the architects of a brighter and more prosperous future for society.
