We have always been taught that democracies are the best way to counter conflicts and social unrest, and to promote peace and development in the world. However, looking at the current democratic setups and systems of government, it has become clear that there is a significant difference between theoretical ideals and the practical implementation of democracy.
From the colonial rule of Britain and France in many parts of the world to the aggressive plan of Hitler — who was elected as a chancellor by democratic election — during World War II, history shows several contradictions in the application of democratic ideals.
Currently, the US believes that it is the main architect behind the formation of the UN and many other NGOs for world peace, ensuring human rights and preventing further wars. Then why did America destroy Iraq in 2003? Why has it always interfered in the civil wars of Lebanon and Syria? Why did it kill thousands of innocent people through NATO forces in Pakistan and Afghanistan? Why did it capture the president of the sovereign country Venezuela? Why has it martyred Iran’s supreme leader and is trying to destroy Iran completely? It appears that democracies are conveniently manipulated by the West to protect their interests.
