Many people think that civil service jobs are very easy and prestigious. They try quite hard to become government officers just for the name, salary and social status. What was once seen as a quiet pursuit of discipline, sacrifice and intellectual rigour, a career in Central Superior Services (CSS), has increasingly attained a different audience on social media. While there is nothing inherently wrong with visibility and social media has allowed many aspirants, especially those from lesser privileged backgrounds, to pick up valuable advice — the mindset is misguided.
Civil service is not an easy job. It is a job full of responsibilities, hard work and long hours. Civil servants have to serve the people, solve problems and work honestly for the country. Many challenges and pressures are part of their daily life. Those who think only about luxury and fame are misunderstanding the real meaning of civil service.
