On streetlights

Apropos a letter titled “Streetlights” published in this newspaper on 2 March 2026, regarding non-functional streetlights in certain residential areas of Karachi, it is important to clarify the delineation of responsibilities.

The installation, repair and maintenance of streetlights fall under the jurisdiction of the city administration and other relevant municipal authorities. Street lighting infrastructure such as poles, fixtures and upkeep schedules is managed by these civic bodies, not by the power utility i.e. Karachi Electric in this case.
