The residential areas of Karachi more often than not have poor street lighting. Many areas suffer from broken or non-functional streetlights, which makes it extremely difficult for people to drive and walk safely at night, increasing the risk of road accidents.
Residents often hesitate to walk outside after dark, while children are unable to play safely in their neighbourhoods. Small businesses and shops located along poorly lit streets also suffer financially due to reduced customer activity at night.
Moreover, the absence of proper lighting creates favourable conditions for street crimes such as theft and harassment, spreading fear and insecurity among residents and passersby.
I urge the concerned authorities, including KMC and K-Electric, to take immediate action to repair faulty streetlights and install new ones where needed. Timely action will greatly improve safety and enhance the quality of life for residents by greatly reducing their inconveniences.
