Diplomacy first

Letter February 21, 2026
Diplomacy first

While Pakistan has every right to be frustrated over terrorism traced to bases in Afghanistan, escalation should remain the very last option, not an immediate response. A better solution lies in strong diplomacy, regional cooperation and economic leverage.

By working with friendly and influential states to pressure Kabul to act against militant groups, and by linking regional trade opportunities to improved security commitments, tensions can be reduced without risking wider conflict. This approach not only addresses the root causes of cross-border militancy but also preserves regional stability and strengthens Pakistan’s position as a responsible and strategic actor on the international stage.
