It is a fundamental principle of justice that even a prisoner has basic human rights. According to the Constitution of Pakistan and international human rights standards, prisoners are entitled to protection of life, proper healthcare and safety from physical abuse. Unfortunately, the situation inside Pakistani prisons tells a different story. Reports of torture, overcrowding, poor sanitation and lack of medical facilities are deeply concerning.
Several tragic incidents have occurred where inmates lost their lives due to negligence and inadequate healthcare. In many cases, illnesses go untreated, and prisoners suffer silently without timely medical assistance. Such conditions not only violate human rights but also damage the moral standing of our justice system.
I request the relevant authorities to conduct transparent investigations, improve healthcare services in prisons and ensure strict accountability of jail officials. Protecting the dignity and life of prisoners is not a favour; it is a legal and moral obligation.
