According to national education reports, Pakistan has about 20 million out-of-school children, with Balochistan having the highest dropout rate and lowest literacy rate in the country — around 45%, compared to the national average of over 60%. Teacher absenteeism and lack of monitoring are among the major reasons for poor educational outcomes in rural areas.
In Hoshab, irregular teacher attendance and weak supervision are forcing students to lose interest in education. Alarmingly, some school dropouts are engaging in risky cross-border petrol and diesel smuggling to earn income. Such activities expose young people to legal trouble and life-threatening dangers.
The education department must ensure strict monitoring, biometric attendance systems and regular inspections. Quality education and youth engagement programs are essential to prevent further decline. Immediate action is needed to safeguard the future of Hoshab’s youth.
