Educated woman

Letter February 05, 2026
Educated woman

Education is a fundamental human right and the foundation of individual empowerment and national progress. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, millions of women are deprived of this basic right due to systemic barriers, cultural constraints and limited access to educational opportunities. This ongoing injustice continues to hinder social development and economic growth.

Alarmingly, women constitute nearly 65% of the illiterate population in the country, with rural women facing the most severe educational disadvantages. Many are forced into domestic responsibilities at an early age and denied the chance to pursue education. This not only perpetuates gender inequality but also restricts Pakistan’s potential for sustainable development.

Women’s education is not merely a social obligation; it is an economic necessity. Educated women contribute to healthier families, stronger communities and a more productive workforce. Therefore, immediate and concrete measures are required to address this critical issue. Targeted policies, increased budget allocations and improved access to quality education for women must be prioritised.
