Larkana is facing a serious crisis of recreational parks and playgrounds. Although the city has a few parks such as Jinnah Bagh, Zulfiqar Park and the Municipal Stadium, there is no proper maintenance. Funds allocated for their upkeep are allegedly embezzled, leaving these public spaces neglected.
Larkana Municipal Stadium is in complete shambles. Development funds remain unutilised, while the money instead fills the pockets of politically affiliated officers and influential politicians.
On every holiday, my children ask me to take them to a park to play cricket or badminton, but I find these places unsafe and unsuitable. Heaps of rubbish and broken alcohol bottles litter the grounds. Ironically, sufficient staff exists only on paper — salaries are drawn, yet no one is present on duty. There isn’t even basic drinking water available.
The Larkana administration, particularly the bureaucratic setup, is failing to fulfil the responsibility entrusted to it. This situation should be alarming for district authorities to develop and maintain safe, clean parks and playgrounds where families can sit with their children, play freely and nurture a healthier future.
