Dilapidated library

Letter January 24, 2026
Dilapidated library

The National Library is not merely a local facility; it is a symbol of Pakistan’s intellectual heritage and a premier national institution that serves scholars, researchers, civil servants and students from across the country. The library is a vital academic space used daily by students, researchers and competitive exam aspirants.

Unfortunately, several lights in the main reading halls and study areas are non-functional, creating an unsuitable and unhealthy environment for serious academic work. Inadequate lighting severely affects concentration, productivity and eyesight, especially for students preparing for competitive examinations who spend long hours in the library. The situation becomes particularly critical during evening hours when natural light is unavailable and artificial lighting is the sole source of illumination. Such conditions undermine the efficiency, dignity and purpose of a national institution meant to promote learning and research.

Despite the library’s national status and heavy daily footfall, this issue has persisted without timely resolution. The prolonged neglect reflects poorly on the management of an institution of such importance and calls for immediate administrative intervention.

I hope this issue will receive due attention through your respected platform. I request the concerned authorities to take prompt action to repair and upgrade the lighting system so that the National Library may continue to serve as a beacon of knowledge and learning.
