Healthcare crisis

Letter January 23, 2026
Healthcare crisis

The shortage of doctors is worsening the healthcare crisis in Balochistan, with serious consequences for the population. This shortage leads to reduced access to medical care, delayed treatment, poorer health outcomes, especially in rural areas, and increased burnout among existing healthcare staff.

Emergency services are also under greater strain due to an aging population and limited training opportunities.

This crisis affects multiple areas of healthcare, including primary care, pediatrics and specialties such as psychiatry, with projections indicating significant shortfalls in the coming years. Immediate action is needed to train more doctors, improve working conditions and ensure equitable distribution of medical professionals to address this growing challenge.
