Every child is unique

Letter January 11, 2026
Every child is unique

In many households, most of the children would have seen their parents comparing them with others. These kinds of comparisons are done with much ease by parents, but they actually don’t realise the impact it can have on a child. Our society has set a standard that a child has to be excellent in education. Nobody focuses on other talents that he or she may have. This type of comparison is what makes a child feel insecure.

I think everybody is unique in his or her own way. If they are not good in studies, they might have a talent in arts, sports or any other thing. There are examples from all over the world of people who were mediocre in education or not educated at all, but made it big in life through their skill and talent. We need to stop this kind of thinking.

Education is important, but not the be all and end all. These is need for elders, including parents and teachers, to start acting more responsibly and understand how not comparing one child with other makes a lot of difference.
