Super-flu

Letter January 09, 2026
Super-flu

A growing health emergency in Karachi and various parts of the country calls for urgent attention, as the super flu continues to spread at an alarming rate. This highly contagious flu has led to a rapid increase in the number of patients suffering from high fever, severe body aches, sore throat and persistent cough.

Health experts warn that this strain of flu spreads quickly through coughing, sneezing and close contact. Therefore, it is important for everyone to take proper precautions such as wearing masks in crowded areas, washing hands frequently, avoiding unnecessary public gatherings and maintaining a balanced diet to boost immunity.

Treatment for this flu mainly involves rest, plenty of fluids and medications that help relieve symptoms. However, many people are mistakenly using antibiotics in the hope of getting better faster. This practice is extremely harmful, as antibiotics are designed to treat bacterial infections not viral illnesses like the flu. Unnecessary use of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, making these medicines less effective in the future when they are truly needed. Moreover, overuse can also harm the natural balance of bacteria in the body and cause unwanted side effects.

The public must understand that prevention is always better than cure. By following medical advice and avoiding self-medication, we can collectively help control the spread of this flu and protect our community’s health.
