Inadequate gas supply

Letter January 08, 2026
Inadequate gas supply

The residents of Shah Faisal Colony, Block 5, Karachi East have been suffering from extremely low gas pressure for weeks. To make matters worse, the gas is only available for a narrow two-hour window — from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM. This limited duration is insufficient for families to prepare meals for office and school goers. The situation is particularly dire during this winter season. Parents are unable to warm water for newborns and toddlers, leading to an increase in cases of fever and chest congestion among children in our neighborhood.

Due to this persistent crisis, many residents are compelled to use LPG cylinders on a regular basis. This not only causes a heavy financial burden amid back-breaking inflation but also poses a significant safety risk in our densely populated streets.

t is disheartening that despite paying our utility bills regularly, we are denied basic services. Although complaints have already been lodged, no SSGC representative has ever visited the area to address our grievances. The SSGC authorities must investigate the distribution issues in Shah Faisal Block 5 and ensure a full restoration of gas pressure and a more reasonable supply schedule.
