The problem faced by the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad during PSL matches held at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium warrant attention. Whenever PSL matches take place, Double Road and its surrounding areas are completely blocked due to security arrangements for foreign players. While the safety of players is undoubtedly important, these road closures cause immense inconvenience to the general public, especially the residents living nearby.
The twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are connected through key routes such as Faizabad, and when these roads are blocked, people are unable to travel for work, education, medical emergencies or other daily necessities. As a result, long traffic jams occur, frustration increases, and the public feels helpless and offended. Ordinary citizens must not suffer repeatedly for events that are planned in advance. This situation reflects poor traffic and urban planning.
The authorities should consider alternative arrangements, such as improved traffic management plans, alternative routes, or even selecting venues that do not disrupt major connecting roads. A unique and practical solution is needed so that national sports events can be enjoyed without causing hardship to the public.
I hope the officials concerned will work towards a balanced solution that ensures both security and public convenience.
