Islamabad and protests

Letter January 01, 2026
Islamabad and protests

Islamabad, as the capital city, should ensure smooth movement for its citizens. However, frequent strikes have turned road blockages into a recurring issue, severely affecting public transport. Although these strikes are not continuous, they happen often enough to exhaust the public.

Roads blocked with containers force people to use long and overcrowded alternative routes. If this practice continues, commuters — especially students, office workers and patients — will face increasing delays, stress and health problems.

Protest is a democratic right, but blocking roads should not become a routine. In the future, such actions must be replaced with peaceful methods that do not disturb public transport or daily life. The authorities should take timely measures to prevent repeated inconvenience to the public.
