The absence of public transport is a pressing issue facing the residents of Tank city, a major town of district Tank in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Despite being the administrative and commercial hub of the district, the town lacks any form of government-operated public transport.
This absence has created many difficulties for students, daily wage earners, workers and the general public. People are forced to depend on costly private vehicles or unsafe, overcrowded vans. There are patients who are forced to travel by local vans, which are unsafe, particularly due to their health condition. Besides burdening the common citizen financially, it also adds to traffic woes and environmental degradation.
While other cities in the province are being integrated into modern transport networks, Tank remains neglected. The authorities concerned must take immediate steps to introduce a government transport service in the city to ease the hardships of its residents and promote equitable development.
