There is a growing societal pressure on students to pursue medicine, thought of as the only respectable career option. From an early age, many are conditioned to believe that failing to become a doctor means failure in life.
As a result, countless students repeatedly attempt the MDCAT under immense pressure, unable to consider alternative paths aligned with their abilities and interests.
Ironically, the medical field itself is becoming increasingly saturated, with limited seats, unpaid house jobs and underpaid positions that hardly reflect the years of effort and sacrifice required.
A country cannot progress when its youth are pushed into one profession while other fields remain undervalued. Parents and educators must encourage students to explore diverse careers based on aptitude and passion rather than social prestige.
